Tesla Insurance roadside, when it’s on your policy, tows a dead Tesla. The usual drop is a Supercharger or a Tesla service center. It doesn’t meet you with a 240-volt Level 2 charge. Confirm that in the Tesla app and on your declarations page.
A Supercharger tow isn’t a curb charge
Tesla Insurance is auto insurance. Roadside, if the policy lists it, is a contract benefit. It isn’t a charging truck. Tesla’s published path for an empty pack is a tow. The destination is the nearest Supercharger or a Tesla service center. Tesla can still bill that tow. Confirm the fee in the app before the hook goes on.
A Level 2 rescue is a different job. Independent operators bring a 240-volt source to the bumper. Teslas take a native NACS plug. Other brands use a CCS or J1772 adapter. Typical charging time is 15 to 30 minutes on the plug. Drivers often leave with about 10 to 20 miles. That’s charging time, never an arrival clock.
Charge Pro PHX doesn’t own those trucks. We match stranded drivers with local operators. The operator quotes you before starting. The operator bills you directly. The pros we connect you with are licensed and insured.

Two Tesla channels can share one app
Factory roadside and Tesla Insurance roadside can look identical on your phone. They aren’t the same contract. Tesla tells owners to request roadside through the Tesla app. Tesla also says out-of-range help may be available. It isn’t financially covered on that roadside page. Availability can be restricted for safety or regulatory reasons.
Tesla Insurance is a policy, if Tesla sells it for your VIN. Your declarations page controls what that policy pays. This page couldn’t confirm Tesla’s live insurance map for Arizona. tesla.com insurance listings weren’t available to quote here. Open the app. See whether Tesla Insurance is offered on this car. If it isn’t, you don’t have an insurance roadside benefit. You have factory roadside, a club like AAA, or a local operator.
Don’t assume you’re double-covered. One channel can expire. The other can exclude an empty pack. Read both. When Tesla roadside assistance won’t charge you on site covers the factory limit.
Read the declarations. Don’t guess the miles
Some Tesla Insurance packets list towing, lockouts, and tire help. Some use generic auto language about energy or fuel delivery. This page couldn’t verify a Tesla Insurance benefit that plugs a Tesla where it sits. If your PDF says charge delivery, call Tesla and ask what the truck actually does. Ask whether they send energy or a flatbed. Ask the towing-mile limit. Ask whether a second out-of-charge call in the same month is covered. No public figure is safe to quote here.
Arizona sets no statewide private-tow rate cap. Cities and counties may set local maximums. Miles past whatever Tesla pays are between you and the tower. Confirm that before you sign. Police can order a disabled car removed under ARS 28-872. Owners pay reasonable tow and storage before release.
Heat and grades still empty the pack
Phoenix averages about 111 days a year at or above 100F. About 21 days hit 110F or more. July highs average near 107F. August sits near 105F. Overnight summer lows stay in the mid-80s. That’s NOAA’s 1991-2020 normal, via NWS Phoenix. Monsoon season runs June 15 to September 30.
Heat cuts range. AAA’s 2026 study found about a 10% efficiency drop at 95F versus 75F. It found about an 8.5% range loss. Recurrent used 345,622 trips from 300 Phoenix-area EVs. It reported 20 to 30% range loss above about 95F. Loss sat near 31% at 100F. Those aren’t Tesla factory range claims. tesla.com wasn’t available for Tesla’s own figures.
Northbound I-17 makes the math worse. Anthem sits near 1,860 feet. New River is near 2,140. Black Canyon City is near 2,000. ADOT posts a 6% maximum grade on that northern climb. Forum drivers have logged about 40% more energy going up than coming down. The nav often underestimates it. SR-87, the Beeline, posts a 7% grade into Slate Creek Canyon toward Payson. A Supercharger tow after that climb still leaves you waiting on a stall. It doesn’t put miles in on the shoulder.
Loop 101 is Agua Fria on the west and Price on the southeast. US-60 is Grand Avenue northwest and the Superstition Freeway east. Arizona has no toll roads. You can still empty a pack on a long, hot grade. This page won’t guess the distance to the next Supercharger.
A dead 12-volt isn’t an empty pack
A lot of stalled Teslas still have traction energy. The small 12-volt is what’s dead. That battery runs the handles, the screens, and the contactor. A dead 12-volt can freeze the car with a full pack. Battery Council International work ran through Battery University. Starter batteries last about 47 months in hot climates. That’s versus about 59 months in cool ones. AAA names heat as the top cause of battery failure.
Sentry Mode and Cabin Overheat Protection keep drawing while you’re parked. A week in a Sky Harbor garage is a classic version. Level 2 charging is confirmed in the Terminal 3 garage. It’s also in the Terminal 4 garage and at the 24th St. station. The car can still wake dead. A Tesla Insurance tow to a Supercharger doesn’t fix a 12-volt lockout. A Tesla 12-volt battery jump at the car does. Heat notes live in when Tesla 12-volt batteries fail in desert heat.
Event nights add the same drain. Mortgage Matchup Center and Chase Field empty buffers downtown. State Farm Stadium is in Glendale, Arizona. Phoenix Raceway is in Avondale, not Phoenix, despite the name.
State trucks change tires. They don’t charge Teslas
Arizona does run free motorist help. DPS Roadside Motorist Assistance changes tires, jump-starts batteries, and brings gasoline or diesel. Published materials don’t mention EV charging. ADOT’s Incident Response Unit works Phoenix-area freeways weekdays from 5am to 8pm. It’s a 14-member unit, sponsored by State Farm since 2020. It helps stranded drivers. It doesn’t advertise an EV charge.
ARS 28-871 says get a disabled car off the traveled way when you can. Stay visible 200 feet each way. ARS 28-775 is the Move Over law. Other drivers should change lanes when they can, or slow down. That’s why an operator on the shoulder needs space. None of those programs plug a Tesla.
Allstate roadside follows the same tow-or-jump pattern. See Does Allstate roadside actually charge a dead EV?.
Home charging doesn’t cover a Beeline stall
Gilbert’s housing stock is new. About 4.1% of it was built before 1980. Home charging is common there. Sun City is the opposite. About 88.9% of housing there was built before 1980. APS serves large parts of Phoenix, Surprise, Goodyear, and Buckeye. SRP covers much of Mesa and shares the East Valley. APS markets the R-EV overnight plan. SRP has named EV price plans. New SRP EV Price Plan enrollment closed after a February 2025 board decision. Existing customers may stay through the November 2029 billing cycle. Those plans don’t rescue a car on the Beeline.
Maricopa the city sits in Pinal County, not Maricopa County. Salt River, Gila River, Fort McDowell, and Ak-Chin are sovereign nations. They have their own police. Stay put and call for help.
Keep Tesla Insurance for the jobs it actually pays
Don’t cancel Tesla Insurance over this, if you have it. Collision, liability, and a covered tow still matter. Keep factory roadside in the app too. Use a local Level 2 operator when the car is healthy. Use it when the pack is empty. Tesla roadside rescue is the referral path for that job.
Charge Pro PHX is a referral line. We don’t hold a trade license. We don’t employ technicians. We set no prices. You may already carry a club card. Compare that with Tesla rescue in Phoenix: AAA or a mobile charge.
If you’re already sitting with no miles, call (602) 932-0920. We’ll match you with an independent operator. That operator quotes an on-site charge or a 12-volt jump before starting. Nobody here promises when the truck arrives.
