What strands an EV in the Phoenix area

If your electric car won't move in the Phoenix area, the public crews on these roads aren't set up to put miles back in the battery. Arizona DPS Roadside Motorist Assistance is statewide. It jump-starts dead batteries, changes tires, and provides gasoline or diesel. Its published materials say nothing about EV charging or out-of-charge situations. The ADOT Incident Response Unit covers Phoenix-area freeways from 5am to 8pm on weekdays with a 14-member unit. It clears crashes and debris, changes tires, and helps stranded motorists, with no EV-specific mention.

The map is 45 cities and communities across seven regions: Phoenix Core and Sky Harbor, East Valley, Scottsdale and the Northeast Valley, West Valley, Southeast and Pinal Belt, I-17 North Corridor, and Gila Bend and the Southwest Desert. Phoenix Core and Sky Harbor is on that list because a car that sat in airport parking and has no range left is still stranded in this metro. The I-17 North Corridor and Gila Bend and the Southwest Desert mark the long freeway and desert runs. Arizona has no toll roads and no toll express lanes, so those stops are on the ordinary freeway grid.

If you are on the traveled lanes, ARS 28-871 says get off the highway when it is practical. A vehicle disabled so badly it can't be moved is exempt. Leave room for other traffic to pass and be visible 200 feet in each direction. Approaching drivers must move over a lane under ARS 28-775 when they safely can, and otherwise slow down.

What a referral gets you, and what to have ready

Charge Pro PHX is a referral service. It matches drivers with independent local EV charging operators. It performs no work, employs no technicians, owns no trucks or equipment, holds no trade license, sets no prices, and gives no warranties. You contract and pay the independent operator directly. The operator confirms compatibility, availability, price, and timing.

A typical rescue adds 10 to 20 miles of range in 15 to 30 minutes of Level 2 charging. That's charging time, not arrival time.

When you call, have the city or community, and the region if you know it. Say this is an out-of-charge EV, not a 12-volt jump. The operator still has to confirm compatibility, so have the make, model, and the port on the car. If you can get off the traveled part of the highway, do that. If the car can't be moved, leave room to pass and stay visible 200 feet in each direction.
