The MMI doesn’t wake. There’s no boot animation. A frozen software screen still has power behind it. This doesn’t.
The flush handles stay flush. They’re electric. No 12-volt, no actuators.
The fob does nothing. The radio signal still leaves the key. The car’s receiver has no power to hear it.

Heat, parked modules, and why MEB cars are hard on the 12-volt
MEB cars keep computers, telematics, and the connectivity stack alive while they sit. That’s by design. Combined with Valley heat, it’s a drain the small AGM wasn’t built to shrug off for weeks.

Audi released software updates that improve 12-volt charge management on some 2022 and 2023 Q4 e-tron cars. The updates help. They don’t make the physics go away. A cooked AGM still needs a test and usually a replacement.

Get in, then find the front jump posts
You don’t jump the battery in the trunk. The AGM is under the right trunk floor, under trim. With a fully dead car you won’t be pulling that panel first. Audi put remote jump terminals under the hood for this exact mess.
Open a car that won’t present a handle
The physical key blade lives in the fob. There’s a release on the back of the fob. Slide the blade out. On the driver’s door, look for a small cover on the lower edge of the handle recess. Pop that cover, insert the blade, and turn. The door opens even with the actuators dead.
Once you’re in, the hood release is under the left side of the dash. If the secondary latch still needs a hand at the nose, do that next.
The terminals you actually use
With the hood up, stay on the driver’s side near the windshield. The positive post is a red-capped terminal, usually near the brake-fluid reservoir. The negative is a bare metal bolt or a marked ground strap on the same side.
Don’t clamp onto the rear AGM through the trunk. Use the front posts.
If you’ve jumped an ID.4, flip the mental map. VW puts the remote posts on the passenger side, near washer fluid. Audi puts them on the driver’s side, near the brake reservoir.
The jump order
- Red clamp to the donor car’s positive terminal.
- Other red clamp to the Q4’s red-capped positive post.
- Black clamp to the donor car’s negative terminal.
- Other black clamp to the Q4’s marked ground point, not to the battery case.
- Let the donor idle about 10 minutes before you try to wake the Audi.
- When the MMI comes back and the handles extend, disconnect in reverse order.

A disabled Q4 on a freeway is still a disabled vehicle. ARS 28-871 says you may not sit on the traveled part of a highway outside a business or residence district if you can get off it. A car that can’t move is exempt, but you still leave room for traffic and stay visible 200 feet in each direction.
