Your pack just hit empty on SR-347 toward Maricopa. Get off the traveled lane if you can. Then get a mobile Level 2 charge to the car.
This commute is a road problem, not a driveway one
The city of Maricopa sits in Pinal County. It is not in Maricopa County. Only 1.9 percent of Maricopa’s homes were built before 1980. Home charging is common. The calls happen on the highway, after the buffer is gone.
EV roadside assistance in Maricopa covers the same corridor. This page is for the moment you’re already on the shoulder.
Phoenix averages about 111 days a year at or above 100F. About 21 days hit 110F or more. July highs average near 107F. August highs sit near 105F. Overnight summer lows stay in the mid-80s. Cabin cooling pulls range while you sit in traffic. NREL lists climate control among the biggest draws.
AAA’s 2026 study found about a 10 percent efficiency drop at 95F versus 75F. Range loss was about 8.5 percent. A 250-mile car does just under 230. Recurrent used 345,622 trips from 300 Phoenix-area EVs. It reports 20 to 30 percent range loss above about 95F. Loss is near 31 percent at 100F.
You planned the drive from a cool garage. The last stretch on SR-347 is sun, A/C, and speed. That’s when the estimate falls apart.
First: get out of the travel lane
ARS 28-871 bars stopping on the traveled highway outside a business or residence district. That applies when it’s practical to get the car off. A vehicle disabled so badly it cannot move is exempt. When you are stopped, leave room for other traffic to pass. You must be visible 200 feet in each direction.
Hazards on. Stay in the car if traffic is close. Don’t walk the white line. ARS 28-775 is the Move Over law. Approaching drivers must change lanes if they can. Otherwise they have to slow down. That law exists because people work on the shoulder. An operator at your charge port needs that space.
ARS 28-872 lets police order a disabled or obstructing vehicle removed. Owners pay reasonable tow and storage costs before release. If the car can still creep onto the shoulder, do that. A rolling car is easier than a car in a live lane.
Monsoon season runs June 15 to September 30. Haboobs can drop visibility to near zero. Flash floods follow. ARS 28-910 covers driving around a barricade into water. You can be billed for the emergency response. Don’t do it.
Empty traction pack versus a dead 12-volt
From the shoulder they look alike. They are not.
An empty traction pack means you used the miles. The car needs energy at the charge port. A dead 12-volt can lock you out even with a full main battery. The 12-volt runs door handles, screens, and the contactor that connects the high-voltage pack. The DC-DC converter only recharges the 12-volt while the car is on or charging. Tesla features like Sentry Mode and Cabin Overheat Protection draw power while parked.
Heat shortens 12-volt life. Battery Council International work, via Battery University, tracked starter-battery life. Hot climates see about 47 months. Cool climates see about 59. A battery good for five years elsewhere can fail in two or three in the desert. AAA calls heat the number-one cause of battery failure.
Tell the operator which one you think it is. Dark screens and dead handles point to 12-volt. A car that drives, then dies at 0 percent, is a pack problem.
What Arizona’s free motorist programs will not do
Arizona does run free motorist help.
DPS Roadside Motorist Assistance is statewide. It changes tires, provides gasoline or diesel, jump-starts dead batteries, adds water, and calls tows. Its published materials name gasoline and diesel. They say nothing about EV charging or an out-of-charge pack. Hours and corridors are not published. Confirm with DPS what they can do where you are.
ADOT’s Incident Response Unit covers Phoenix-area freeways from 5am to 8pm weekdays. It is a 14-member unit, sponsored by State Farm since 2020. It clears crashes and debris, changes tires, and helps stranded motorists. No EV-specific mention.
A 12-volt jump may fall inside what they already do. Filling an empty EV pack does not. That gap is what independent mobile operators fill.
Factory roadside still means a tow
Tesla will not charge you on site. Tesla tows to the nearest Supercharger or service center. Ford tows to the nearest charger, home, or dealer within 50 miles. Rivian and Hyundai/Kia have documented trouble getting a dead EV towed. Ask for a tow by name if that is the plan.
A flatbed is the safe way to move a dead EV. Loading one from a live SR-347 lane is slow and tight. If you can stay on the shoulder, mobile EV charging puts energy in the car. You roll out under your own power.
Charge Pro PHX does not perform the work. It matches stranded drivers with independent local operators. Operators quote before they start. They bill you directly.
What Level 2 on the shoulder actually does
Operators in this network bring a 240V Level 2 source to the car. Teslas use a native NACS plug. Non-Tesla EVs use a CCS or J1772 adapter. Typical add is 10 to 20 miles of range. That takes 15 to 30 minutes of charging. That is charging time. It is not an arrival time.
That is enough to leave the shoulder and reach a destination you already trust. It is not a full pack. Read what roadside Level 2 charging can add if you want the hardware picture. How a mobile EV charging truck actually helps walks through the stop itself.
Power at home in Maricopa does not follow you
ED3, Electrical District No. 3, serves the city of Maricopa and much of northern Pinal. It publishes an EV time-of-use rate, EV TOU 2-10. It also offers EV smart-charger on-bill financing. Those programs are for the house. Confirm your own address. Valley power often splits block by block among APS, SRP, and the electrical districts.
You may charge at work in the Valley. Home in Maricopa can sit on ED3. Neither utility dispatches a truck to SR-347.
Ak-Chin is a sovereign nation south of Maricopa. Tribal police and government are their own. If you are on tribal land, say so when you call.
ADOT’s NEVI plan names parts of SR-347 as a designated corridor. It also names I-10, I-17, I-8, I-19, I-40, and parts of US-60. The build is DC fast charging at 150 kW minimum. Statewide construction is underway in 2026. SR-347 work was still in planning as of 2026. Check live apps for what is actually open. Don’t treat a designated corridor as a guaranteed stall.
How to call it in
Have your direction ready. Say whether you’re pointed at the Valley or at Maricopa. A mile marker, exit, or nearest named road helps. Give make, model, and plug type.
We’ll match you with out-of-charge recovery. The operator confirms location, quotes the job, then starts. Charge Pro PHX sets no price and publishes no hours. Tesla owners can also read what to do if a Tesla runs out on Valley roads.
If the car will not wake, say that up front. A 12-volt jump on site is a different visit. So is a Level 2 top-off.
When to pick up the phone
The range number is gone. You are as far right as ARS 28-871 allows. Factory roadside is offering a tow you do not want. DPS and ADOT can help with a tire, a jump, or gasoline. They do not advertise an EV charge.
Call (602) 932-0920. We’ll connect you with an independent local operator. The operator quotes before any cable goes in. Nobody here can promise when that truck arrives.
